Day 1: Birding Cusco -Huacarpay lake (3100 m.a.s.l)

We pick you up at your hotel in Cusco and we head out south of town with a picnic lunch to Huarcapay lake. The lake is surrounded by Inca, and pre-Inca ruins amongst which we will be birding.

In the Bird watching tour at huacarpay we will see a variety of high Andean waterfowl including Puna, Speckled and Cinnamon Teal, Yellow-billed Pintail, Andean Duck and other wetland associated birds.

White-tufted Grebe, Plumbeous Rail and Andean Coot will be here too. Depending on the time of year migrant North American shorebirds (waders) may be present. Hucarpay in the nice place for Bird Watching .

We will be specifically on the lookout for Wren-like Rush bird, Many-colored Rush-tyrant, Yellow-winged Blackbird, Puna Ibis and Andean White-winged Negrito.

Birds of Prey we may see include Aplomado Falcon, Cinereous Harrier, Variable Hawk and Black-chested Buzzard-Eagle. Doing Bird watching In the arid scrub around the lake we’ll look for the endemic Rufous-fronted Canastero and also Streak-fronted Thornbird.

We should find the pretty, endemic Bearded Mountaineer feeding in the tree tobacco (Nicotania sp.) Lake Huacarpay is the bird watching spot to appreciate the Giant Hummingbird and Trainbearers. Peruvian, Ash-breasted and Mourning Sierra-Finches will be here with Greenish Yellow-finch and Blue and Yellow Tanager. After finished our bird watching tour at Hucarpay In the afternoon we’ll drive back to Cusco and if time permits us we will visit the pre inka site call Pikillacta one Pre Inca citadel built around 500-600 after AC . Day 2: Puerto Malaga pass – Carrizales (4315 m.a.s.l)

Puerto Malaga pass – Carrizales (4315 m.a.s.l) ( 14.000 ft ) Pick up very early in the morning from the hotel at Cusco or the Sacred Valley. will start our bird watching tour in Carrizales, is the first site to see beautiful birds (only 2h by car from Urubamba or ollantayatambo – Sacred Valley – and 2h 30 min from Cusco by car) around Tastayoc – Canchayoc, Carrizales different important viewpoints to appreciate many birds ,will see very nice birds around 260 species because Puerto Malaga is another bio station with nice small rivers also not far way from the bird watching area will appreciate beautiful snow mountains.

The Nicer places Bofore the pass and after the Malaga Pass offers the unique opportunity to bird one of the rarest and threatened ecosystems on earth, the forest of Polylepis Incana ,Rugosa Racemosa , SP, Woodlands located on the high lands and lower lands Offers us the best chance , for bird watching .

As you start early Bird watching Tour , drive along the Cusco- Malaga Pass road and as the pass is reach a short walk is required to get to the patch of Polylepis, a 4-5 hours easy hike down to valley floor is necessary to explore this unique Andean habitat and its highly habitat-specialized birds, unfortunately this endemic Andean habitat is quickly disappearing because of selective cutting for fire-wood.

Our Bird Watching Peru Team was doing some investigations and we found wonderful endemic bird , nicer colorful and different size birds this will be a great Bird Watching spot, for our bird watching tour .

The birds we expect to find include Ash- breasted Tit-Tyrant (endemic), Royal Cinclodes of different Colors (endemic), White-browed Tit-Spine tail (endemic), Tawny Tit-Spine tail, Striped- headed Ant pitta, Giant Cone bill, Cordilleran Canister, Black Siskin, Brown-backed Chat-Tyrant, Lined-fronted Canastero, Tit-like Dacnis, Blue-mantled Thorn bill, Thick-billed Siskin, Andean Condor and many others , will found in the cloud forest part.
